2022 Hualien Aesthetics Festival
The 2022 Hualien Aesthetics Festival was a chance to examine the rich culture and topography of Hualien through a contemporary lens. Balancing modernism and tradition, the festival showcased how daily life in Hualien has been interconnected with nature for generations. During the event, Taiwanese fashion house SILZENCE launched their newest collection which included 115 outfits, many featuring SINGTEX® STORMEGA™ fabrics.
Finding the perfect fabrics that could capture the diverse Hualien landscape was important to the designers. What drew them to STORMEGA™ was its three-dimensional air pocket design which provided effortless richness and texture into their creations. Intricate patterns were styled and printed onto the fabrics to represent various stones and minerals found in Hualien such as marble, nephrite, jade and rhodonite.
In order to create an authentic Hualien aesthetic, the designers needed to maintain a connection between art, earth and culture. In addition to the designers taking part in field studies across Hualien, SILZENCE collaborated with local indigenous craftspeople who created a number of original jewelry pieces and accessories for the show.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau hopes that through the Hualien Aesthetic Festival visitors can experience how the natural landscape of Hualien has woven in and out of daily life for centuries. Collaborations between artists of different cultural backgrounds created a chance for new exchanges and revelations. The end result was a collection that honored both contemporary and traditional craftsmanship and in the words of the organizers created a “cultural event that gazes at the world from a local perspective”

After the festival SILZENCE founder Jun-Liang Chen and Chang-Hong Ko stopped by SINGTEX® headquarters to share their collection with the whole SINGTEX® team. On top of overseeing SILZENCE, Jun-Liang Chen is also a guest professor in the Department of Crafts and Design at the National Taiwan University of Arts. We were all extremely grateful that they were able to take time out of their busy schedules to share their designs with us, answer some of our questions, and give more insight into their design processes. Even more amazing, the visit quickly turned impromptu fashion show with the help of the SINGTEX® Marketing and Sales teams.
